As social media grows, so does its impact on the legal industry. This infographic shows how lawyers are currently using social media.
Over the past 10 years, social media has become ubiquitous with our everyday lives.
Lawyers, like many other professionals, were initially unsure about the benefits of using social media. But as time progresses, this skeptical attitude has started to fade.
One of the main reasons for this shift is the efficiency through which lawyers can network with each other on social media. According to the 2015 ABA Legal Technology Survey, the amount of lawyers networking online is higher than ever.
Today, 85% of law firms have a website, and 76% of firms actively maintain and post to some form of online resource or platform, up from 55% just four years ago.
LinkedIn is the most popular social media site for lawyers according to the report, with 57% of all law firms having a presence on the social channel. Facebook, Twitter and Google+ are also all used by firms, but not to the same extent as Linkedin.
And the best part is, social media is proving worthwhile. Of lawyers who participated in this study, 24% reported that they landed a new client directly from social media.
Even though the legal industry may have been slow to take advantage of social media, it is clear that lawyers now reap the rewards of having a strong social presence.
