New Avvo study confirms huge market opportunity for lawyers who can figure out how connect with clients as they research legal issues online.
In 2015, the lawyer rating site Avvo conducted a study of nearly 1,000 people who recently purchased legal services. In its whitepaper, Sink or Swim: How to adapt to the New Legal Consumer, Avvo discusses the results of the study, and gives us some of the most compelling insights into what it calls “The New Legal Consumer.”
It should come as no surprise that technology has materially changed the way legal consumers access legal information and purchase legal services. Avvo’s study confirms that, where possible, many clients take a do-it-yourself approach using online legal forms, legal advice helplines and online forums.
But the explosion of DIY legal services isn’t all negative for small firm attorneys. In fact it’s a huge market opportunity for market savvy lawyers who are willing to be flexible about the traditional law firm business model.
As Avvo’s study tells us, a huge portion of DIY legal consumers will hire a lawyer for the same matter. Lawyers who figure out how to stay in front of prospective clients as they try solve their legal problems online are the ones who stand to benefit the most.
