Excited about her upcoming honeymoon, Amanda deals with the frustration of planning social media marketing content while away.
Planning is essential when you’re a part of a small law firm. Staying on top of your content, meetings, paperwork, etc is important in a normal day-to-day workload, but once you add leisure to the mix, planning becomes crucial.
In this week’s #FollowAttorneyAmanda, Amanda talks about her thought process when it comes to planning her content before going on a long vacation.
Amanda Shaffer: Hi, I’m Attorney Amanda Shaffer. Today I want to talk about issues sometimes when you only have two attorneys. So on May 24th, I’m going to be going finally on my honeymoon and I won’t be back until like June 10th or something. So I’m trying to figure out how much marketing I should be doing in between them because Aaron’s going to be all alone and he can only handle so much when I’m gone. I know when he’s gone, it can be pretty tough for me. So, I have my episode, eight of my game show, “Are You Smarter Than A Naturalized Citizen” on Wednesday which I still plan to do, and then I won’t be doing another one of those until after my honeymoon. I’ll probably do one of my Tuesday #TuesdayTips tomorrow like I normally do on Tuesdays. But other than that, I don’t, maybe I’ll do some notable approvals and not boost it because we are still getting – I was out at the end of last week and we’re still getting plenty of calls from people from all the other stuff I do because there’s kind of always like a delayed reaction or delayed response. So I put something out there. You don’t get the calls immediately.
Sometimes it could take a couple of weeks. So that’s one of the things with marketing that I really need to nail down and figure out a little bit better. I haven’t fully decided what I’m going to do between now and when I go on my honeymoon, but I definitely think I have to scale back. I have a lot of work to finish. I want to get a lot out, so I don’t have to worry about anything while I’m away and just enjoy myself because this is going to be a vacation I’m actually not going to work on, as opposed to all my other vacations where I’m usually at least available. And so trying to find that balance between continuing the marketing, because I don’t want it to go away and you need to continue to do stuff, but also not kind of flooding Aaron with calls while I’m gone because I know when he’s gone, it’s really tough because the phone doesn’t stop ringing and you still have people coming in. So I think that I have to definitely scale it back in the next couple of weeks but I get always get a little anxious because then I’m going to go away and I know Aaron’s not going to really do any marketing while I’m gone. He probably won’t even have time. So it’s like you don’t want to lose your presence online. You’re not going to lose it that quickly, but you want to – it’s tough because I know I’m going to be anxious about it. I’m going to want to be posting stuff, but at the same time, if we don’t have anyone to handle it, you’re kind of in that predicament.
So I think the best thing for me to do at this point will be focused on getting my work done that I have on the table doing the bare minimum with marketing. I don’t have to boost it, which is paying for it, so more people see it. And then, I don’t mind doing some marketing things when I’m away. Although I say that a lot when I go on vacation. “Oh yes, I’ll focus on marketing; stuff is easy” and then I never want to do any work, but I can definitely before then at least, have a plan when I come back because when I come back, that’s when I want to start doing my asylum series where I’m going to do Lives about different countries and different groups that you can apply for asylum for; talking about what’s going on in those countries. I have that coming up. I have an ad campaign about immigrant athletes that I’m going to be posting and I’ve only held off with that because I want to target my audience better. But that, and the summer is usually a little slower too. So that’s a good time to do more – do more marketing things that I wouldn’t normally be able to have time to do.
And then I’m also planning to do over the summer, something on anti-sex trafficking there’s a lot going on right now with what’s the like evangelical church and PornHub and all these things where there’s a lot of misinformation out there about sex trafficking and the immigrants involved in it. And it’s actually really hurting immigrants the way that a lot of people are out there trying to help them, but they’re actually victim-blaming – it’s a victim-blaming type of thing. So I’m trying to do a collaborate with some real anti-trafficking groups. I’ll expand on that more in the future, but that’s just kind of what I have in the pipeline. So it’s going to be a little bit quiet the next few weeks, and this is also this pod podcast. I don’t know what this is called, this video blog. I think we’ll be launching soon at the beginning of June, I’m going to continue to of course record them and continue to provide updates. But I will say, I was out Wednesday, Thursday, Friday last week. We have on the schedule – we have one, two, three, four new clients coming already this week. So it’s already going to be a hectic week like – I’m tired. I flew in last night, but I didn’t want to miss today because we have so much going on, which is great. So that is all today for #FollowAttorneyAmanda. I will see you next episode.
