My Firm’s 2018 Goals

In this week’s edition of Things I Wish I Knew, solo lawyer Joleena Louis shares the goals and ambitions of her firm for this coming year.

It’s that time of year again! I am a very goal-oriented person and setting and reaching goals each year helps keep me motivated and keep my practice on track.

I like to plan my business 5 years in advance. I set broad goals for the next 5 years. I then break those big-picture goals down into yearly goals. Then I break each of those yearly goals down into actionable steps to take each quarter or each month.

So far this strategy has helped me stay on target with everything I’ve wanted to accomplish.

Here is my plan to make 2018 my firm’s best year yet.

Double My Monthly Consultations

In 2018 I want to double the average amount of consultations I schedule each month. I have a very detailed marketing strategy in place for 2018 and in the last quarter of 2017, I have really hustled to make strategic connections with people and companies who have relationships with my ideal client and who want to establish mutually beneficial referral relationships.

I have very specific target and revenue goals for each month. And now that I have these new techniques in place, reaching these new goals shouldn’t be too difficult.

Finish My 2nd Book

In November I released The Entrepreneur’s Guide To Divorce and it has definitely helped boost business. I plan to release my second book in Spring of 2018.

In order to reach this goal, my plan is to wake up an hour earlier every weekday to write so I can get it finished by early spring. Scheduling time on my calendar to write motivates me to get it done, which is why I am planning to have it done by early next year.

Launching A Podcast

Followers of my Modern Solo blog have been suggesting a podcast for a while now, and I’ve finally decided to do it. I’m currently recording episodes and plan to launch in January.

The podcast will become another tool in my marketing arsenal, helping me to solidify myself as an expert in my niche, but also giving leads a better understanding of who I am and how I can help.

Record 100 Videos

For the past few years, I’ve started to use more videos as part my marketing. But the results have been very inconsistent. So my goal for 2018 is to record 100 videos by the end of the year. They can be for social media, YouTube, or email marketing.

The goal is to build a large collection of content and to get comfortable in front of the camera. And I think if I can do that, success with video marketing will follow.

My plan for 2018 is in place. I’d love to hear yours.
